What is the Group Simulator?

The World Cup 2026 Group Simulator lets you predict the score of every group-stage match across all 12 groups, then automatically computes the standings using FIFA tiebreakers and shows which teams advance to the Round of 32.

How to use the Group Simulator

  1. Pick a group from the tabs (A through L).
  2. Enter your predicted home and away score for each of the 6 group matches.
  3. The standings table on the right updates live as you type. The top 2 teams are highlighted as Round of 32 qualifiers.
  4. Click Reset to clear all scores, or pick another group to simulate that one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tiebreakers does the simulator use?

Points, then goal difference, then goals scored, then alphabetical. Simplified vs the full FIFA tiebreakers (which include head-to-head and fair play) but accurate enough for predictions.

How are best third-placed teams determined?

The simulator focuses on per-group standings. The 8 best third-placed teams (across all 12 groups) are ranked by points, GD, GS - the same way FIFA ranks them.

Do my picks save?

No - the simulator is intentionally session-based. Refresh and start fresh. We may add localStorage in future if there's demand.

Can I get a shareable link?

Not yet - we use the live render to keep things simple. For a full bracket experience with shareable links, try our [World Cup Bracket Maker](/tools/world-cup-bracket-maker).

Why are some matches in two columns?

The simulator renders all 6 group matches in a vertical list. The standings update in real time as you enter scores. Top 2 teams (highlighted) advance to the Round of 32.

How accurate is this vs the real thing?

It's a prediction tool, not a forecaster. Your picks reflect your beliefs about the tournament, not a statistical projection. For data-driven predictions, see our [predictions blog post](/blog/world-cup-2026-predictions-ml-model).
