What is the Knockout Simulator?

The World Cup 2026 Knockout Simulator lets you pick winners from the Round of 32 through to the Final. The bracket auto-fills as you advance teams, and your champion appears at the end.

How to use the Knockout Simulator

  1. The Round of 32 is pre-seeded with the top 32 ranked teams as a baseline (this changes after the real draw).
  2. Click the team you predict to win each Round of 32 match - they advance to the Round of 16.
  3. Continue clicking through R16 → QF → SF → Final.
  4. Your champion is highlighted at the bottom. Reset clears all picks.

Worked example

A common conservative bracket might be:

  • R32: top seeds advance against lower seeds in most matches
  • QF: France beat Belgium, Brazil beat Germany, Argentina beat Italy, England beat Spain
  • SF: Argentina beat France, Brazil beat England
  • Final: Argentina beat Brazil 2-1

Or pick chaos: 5th-seed cinderella runs, defending champions out in R32, etc. The bracket lives in your browser - try multiple scenarios.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Round of 32 seeded?

The tool uses a default seeding based on the top 32 FIFA-ranked teams as a placeholder. After the real World Cup draw, the seeding follows FIFA's actual Round of 32 pairing rules (group winners vs runners-up + best 3rd-place teams).

Why do downstream picks reset when I change an earlier round?

Because the bracket structure depends on who advances - if you change a Round of 32 winner, the Round of 16 opponent changes too. The simulator clears later rounds to avoid stale picks.

Can I customise the seeding?

Not in this version - we wanted a fast tool that works pre-draw. After the official draw, we'll add the option to use the official Round of 32 bracket.

How are extra time and penalties handled?

You're just picking the winner - no need to specify how. Each match is a single click.

Do my picks save?

Not in this version - the simulator is intentionally fast and session-based. For a persistent bracket with localStorage save, use our [Bracket Maker](/tools/world-cup-bracket-maker).

Can I share my bracket?

Not yet - share-by-URL coming soon. For now, screenshot your bracket and share that.
