What is the Asian Handicap?

The Asian handicap calculator settles any Asian handicap bet from the final score. Handles whole-goal lines (-1, +2), half-goal lines (-0.5, +1.5), and quarter-goal lines (-0.25, +0.75) which split the stake across two half-line bets.

How to use the Asian Handicap

  1. Enter the Asian handicap line as applied to the home team (negative = home favoured, positive = home underdog).
  2. Enter the decimal odds and your stake.
  3. Enter the final home and away goals.
  4. The calculator returns the settlement and profit for both home and away handicap positions.

The formula

Adjusted goal difference = (Home + Line) − Away

Settlement:
  > 0 → Win (full stake at odds)
  = 0 → Push (stake returned)
  < 0 → Loss (lose stake)

Quarter lines (-0.25, -0.75, +0.25, +0.75) split the stake 50/50 across the nearest two half lines.
Result: Win + Push = Half-win, Loss + Push = Half-loss.

Worked example

You back England -1.5 at 2.10 with $100 stake. England win 3-1.

  • Adjusted goal difference = (3 − 1.5) − 1 = +0.5 → Win
  • Profit = $100 × (2.10 − 1) = +$110

Quarter-line example: you back Spain -0.75 at 1.90 with $100 stake. Spain win 1-0.

  • Stake splits 50/50 between -0.5 and -1.0 lines
  • At -0.5: (1 - 0.5) - 0 = +0.5 → Win → +$45 profit on the $50 half
  • At -1.0: (1 - 1.0) - 0 = 0 → Push → $50 returned
  • Total settlement: Half-win, profit = +$45

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Asian handicap?

A handicap bet that eliminates the draw by giving one team a virtual head start (or deficit). Half-goal lines (-0.5, +1.5) split decisively; quarter-goal lines (-0.25, -0.75) split the stake across two half-lines.

Why use Asian handicap instead of 1X2?

Asian handicap typically has lower bookmaker margin (2-3% vs 5-7% for 1X2), no draw outcome, and you can push/half-win/half-loss for nuanced settlements. Standard market for sharp football bettors.

How are quarter lines settled?

A quarter line (e.g. -0.25) is equivalent to splitting your stake 50/50 across the two nearest half lines (0 and -0.5). One half can win, the other push, giving a half-win settlement. The calculator handles this automatically.

What about live Asian handicap?

Live AH lines change throughout the match based on score and game state. The settlement math is identical - the calculator works for any line you backed at any point in the match.

Which bookmakers offer Asian handicap?

All major bookmakers offer it, with the deepest markets at Pinnacle, Betfair Exchange, Bet365, and Asian-focused books. Our [odds API](/odds-api) returns AH lines from 4 bookmakers.

What's the difference between AH and European handicap?

European handicap (also called "3-way handicap") includes a draw outcome at the adjusted line. AH eliminates the draw entirely (it settles as push if the adjusted score is level).
