What is the Over/Under Goals?

The over/under goals calculator settles total-goals bets from a final score. Handles whole lines (2.0, 3.0), half lines (1.5, 2.5, 3.5), and quarter lines (2.25, 2.75) that split your stake across two half lines.

How to use the Over/Under Goals

  1. Enter the goals line (e.g. 2.5).
  2. Enter the decimal odds (typically the same for over and under at the half-goal line, around 1.85-2.10).
  3. Enter your stake.
  4. Enter the final home and away goals.
  5. The calculator returns the settlement for both Over and Under sides.

The formula

Total Goals = Home Goals + Away Goals
Settlement (vs line):
  > line → Win
  = line → Push (whole/half-line)
  < line → Loss

Quarter lines (e.g. 2.25) split 50/50 across the two nearest half lines (2.0 and 2.5).

Worked example

You back Over 2.5 at 1.95 with $100 stake. Match ends 2-1.

  • Total = 2 + 1 = 3
  • 3 > 2.5 → Over wins
  • Profit = $100 × (1.95 − 1) = +$95

Quarter-line example: Over 2.25 at 1.90 with $100 stake. Match ends 1-1.

  • Total = 2, stake splits 50/50 across Over 2.0 and Over 2.5
  • Over 2.0: total 2 = line 2.0 → Push → $50 returned
  • Over 2.5: total 2 < line 2.5 → Loss → $50 lost
  • Total settlement: Half-loss, $50 lost

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "over 2.5 goals" mean?

You're betting that the total number of goals in the match (home + away) will be 3 or more. "Under 2.5" means 2 or fewer. The half-goal line means there's never a push.

What's the difference between line 2.0 and 2.5?

At line 2.0, exactly 2 total goals is a push (stake returned). At line 2.5, 2 total goals is a loss for over / win for under. Bookmakers offer both depending on market preferences.

How are quarter lines settled?

A quarter line like 2.25 splits your stake 50/50 across the two nearest half lines (2.0 and 2.5). Each half settles independently, giving combined outcomes like half-win, half-loss, or full win/loss.

What's a typical World Cup over/under line?

World Cup group-stage matches average ~2.5-2.7 goals per match. Lines of 2.5 and 2.75 are most common, with 1.5 in lower-quality matchups and 3.5 in attacking favourites vs minnows.

Do extra time and penalties count?

Standard over/under settles on 90 minutes + injury time. Knockout matches with extra time have separate "over/under inc. ET" markets. Penalties almost never count.

Which bookmakers offer the deepest totals?

Pinnacle and Bet365 offer the widest range of lines (1.5 through 6.5 typically) with the most competitive margins. Our [odds API](/odds-api) returns totals lines from 4 bookmakers.
